Lahey Health and St. Joseph Healthcare Strengthen Affiliation
Preferred Clinical Affiliation Paves the Way for Seamless, Exceptional Care for Patients in the Region
June 18, 2014
BURLINGTON, MA (JUNE 17, 2014) – Today, Lahey Health and St. Joseph Healthcare announced plans to expand the collaboration between the two health systems. This newly expanded agreement will broaden the current relationship between the two organizations through joint clinical service line development, allowing the physicians of Lahey Hospital & Medical Center and St. Joseph Healthcare in New Hampshire to work in partnership to provide an integrated, comprehensive, and high-quality continuum of care for the southern New Hampshire region.
Lahey Health is a physician-led, community-focused healthcare organization that provides patients with safe, high-quality care through a system of award-winning hospitals, comprehensive senior care and at-home services, extensive behavioral health resources and primary care practices. Its network includes nearly 1,000 community-based, nationally recognized physicians who provide clinical excellence and an exceptional patient experience. Its flagship hospital, Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, is an academic medical center consistently recognized as one of America’s top hospitals.
St. Joseph Healthcare, a member of Tewksbury-based Covenant Health Systems, is a Magnet designated hospital that delivers high quality health and wellness care to the residents of the southern New Hampshire region. A Joint Commission Top Performer for the last three consecutive years, St. Joseph Healthcare provides leading edge surgical and cardiovascular care. A newly expanded and renovated Emergency Department opened in April, serves 24×7 field activated trauma, stroke and angioplasty teams. St. Joseph Healthcare offers round-the-clock emergency services, comprehensive and specialized treatment in cancer care. The hospital is also home to a CARF-accredited rehabilitation medicine unit which houses New Hampshire’s first CARF-accredited stroke program.
“Lahey Health is committed to working with respected community providers to enhance the care already being provided so that patients can receive safe, high-quality care and stay close to their families and their homes,” said Howard Grant, JD, MD, president and chief executive officer of Lahey Health. “We’re delighted to announce this enhanced relationship with St. Joseph Healthcare so that we can further achieve these goals as well as lower costs and improve the overall patient experience for so many in the region.”
“This expanded affiliation between St. Joseph Healthcare and Lahey Health is a testament to the long-standing successful collaboration our two organizations have enjoyed for many years. St. Joseph Healthcare and Lahey Health have been delivering high-quality, well-coordinated care to patients through our many clinical connections that already exist in areas of neurosurgery, trauma and stroke. It is the successful outcomes for our shared patients that have led us to develop a deeper affiliation,” said Richard Boehler, MD, MBA, FACPE, president and CEO of St. Joseph Healthcare. “Both organizations have similar visions for the future of healthcare, and we are committed to an integrated approach that will ensure quality, lower costs, and improve the experience for all our patients. Partnering with Lahey Health allows us to continue to deliver on that promise.”
Under the expanded clinical affiliation, Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, Mass., will serve as St. Joseph Healthcare’s preferred medical center for patients who require tertiary and quaternary specialty or subspecialty services above and beyond what is available locally. In addition, physicians from both hospitals will make collaborative assessments of specialist and consultative service needs at St. Joseph Healthcare. The hospitals will also share resources for clinical leadership, education and program development for jointly identified service lines, including cancer treatment.
